Time waits for no one. An ageless, timeless statement that means you have to get a move on or risk unproductivity.

In past times, people struggled with managing time, and in today's busy world, it remains a dilemma. While you might be yearning for a simpler era when time seemed to move more slowly, the realities of participation in contemporary western society require young people to have skills in efficiency and productivity. Time management skills for students are increasingly important.

What is time management? As the money in your savings and other resources, time is finite and must be managed. Time management is controlling the amount of time you spend on specific tasks.

Here are some skills you'd need to foster to manage time effectively;

1) Goal-setting: No soccer player goes out to the pitch, unsure of what to do with the ball. Similarly, it’s almost impossible to use time well if you don’t know what to do with it. Students must have short and long-term goals. For example, a short-term goal could be finishing up an assignment. A long-term goal would be to play in the school football game or orchestra.

2) Prioritizing: Find what needs to be done and put them in order of personal importance and urgency. Which is more critical; studying for a test tomorrow or prepping for a concert in a week?

3) Organization: Once priorities are set, an execution plan is important. Some people are naturally good organizers, and others need more help. Maintaining an up-to-date calendar, a to-do list, or a tidy student environment are strategies that help. There are also many software applications to aid organizations.

4) Managing You: Managing time means understanding how your body system works with time. What are your peak hours of productivity? When are you stressed?

Nobody performs at their peak under excessive stress. Students need healthy ways to manage the pressures of study while maintaining productivity. Get enough sleep when you can. Try exercising and taking breaks. These are great ways to keep stress at bay and heighten productivity.

Whether it's a test day or project period, you could always rely on the methods to help you.
